The Back Story: It’s Thrifty Thursday (posts that highlight one or more of my favorite thirty items.)!   In life you can't control what happens but you can control how you react to it. I have been living in my very own episode of a series of unfortunate events! For about a month I have been walking around allowing life to drain me of all my positive energy. I actually forgot how much I love to laugh and smile. This weekend I decided to change my sour puss disposition and get back to my normal goofy, giggly, and positive self. I was supposed to go see my family this weekend and that didn’t work out.  So since I was off the entire weekend, I decided to take my b-u-t-t to church, in order to help better center my energy. It was cold Sunday here in New York, so I decided to pull out one of my favorite thrifted pieces: this plaid skirt by Russ. During the fall plaids are such and important staple. So when I see plaids at the thrift store I usually purchased them immediately because of the high level of versatility. I purchased this skirt from American Thrift like 3 years ago and it's one of my favorite fall wardrobe items. Its wool so it offers some level of warmth. It was originally way to big and midi length,  but after some adjustments (shortened it and took in the waist) it’s perfect. The entire look cost under $30 including the bag. The turtleneck is thrifted J Crew $.10, Skirt is RRRuss $3.00, Tights Gap $2.00, and Boots HM $5.50.

So as we all know I am a budget shopper for the most part and with the change in weather its time to get your outwear ready. In New York VS when I lived in Louisiana my variations in outerwear have never been so important. The one thing everyone sees you in is your jacket/coat, so if you don’t have options it begins to feel like your wearing the same outfit everyday! NO BEUNO! This week I’m going to share with you my tips, on getting cute, affordable, expensive looking outerwear.  

Lets start with the closet staple the “leather Jacket”. When It comes to purchasing faux and vegan leather here are my tips:

The Back Story: Life is hard… with that being said someone told me once that when you are feeling down and out, you need to do the thing that you are passionate about. So this flip didn’t have a destination or event in mind. I flipped this because it was good for the soul! I purchased this dress from the Gap for $4.97. I made impromptu plans to stay at my boyfriend’s house and hadn’t packed a bag. I an effort to avoid waking up crazy early, I need to buy something to wear to work the next day. The only requirement was that it was CHEAP. It was still summer when I purchased it so that’s why it was dirt-cheap. I had no plans on ever wearing the darn thing again, but like I said flipping it was chicken soup for the soul. I am super pleased with the results.

The Idea: You and I both have seen a ton of tops and dress with the almost chocker like neckline. So I decided to give it a try.

The Process:

* do not try and sew the raw edges unless you have a serger . I made that mistake and had to cut of more than I had planned to correct it.
